- Achieve a glowing, fresh, younger-looking skin.
What is Ultherapy?
Ultherapy is currently the state-of-the-art technology in ultrasound-based skin tightening treatments. This non-surgical procedure delivers precise ultrasound energy into the deep layers of the skin to stimulate new collagen production. Ultherapy is the only US FDA-cleared skin lifting treatment that offers real-time visualization of the skin tissue layers during treatment, allowing doctors to target specific areas deep within the skin.
How does Ultherapy work?
Natural skin lift deep within the skin
Ultherapy specifically targets skin layers at depths of 1.5 mm, 3.0 mm, and even up to 4.5 mm to deliver precise ultrasound-based heating, without affecting the skin surface or the adjacent tissues. The depth reach of Ultherapy is considerably more efficient than other non-invasive and minimally invasive skin treatments that only reach the dermis, which has a depth of < 3 mm. Targeting the deeper layers of the skin allows Ultherapy to effectively promote collagen production deep within the skin for a natural skin lift effect.
Stimulates collagen production by 42%
A recent study reported that areas of the face that received Ultherapy treatment had 1.4 times higher rate of collagen production versus untreated areas. Additional data showed that treatment with Ultherapy resulted in a 42% increase in the production of collagen Types I and III, which are most involved in maintaining the laxity and smooth texture of the skin.
Precise treatment with real-time imaging
Ultherapy delivers ultrasound energy of 60-70°C, which is the ideal temperature range to stimulate collagen contraction and denaturation. This localized heating is then applied to specific skin layers with depths of 1.5 mm, 3.0 mm, and 4.5 mm. Precise targeting of these skin layers is made possible by the real-time visualization feature of Ultherapy. The real-time imaging enables doctors to see the tissue layers and precisely control where the energy will be distributed. Clear visualization of the tissues also allows doctors to avoid bone and blood vessels, thereby optimizing patient safety and aesthetic outcomes.
Patient-specific treatment
As each patient has a unique skin profile, the innovative program control of Ultherapy has been designed to allow clinicians to efficiently map out a specific treatment plan based on the patient’s skin anatomy. Different transducers are available for different treatment depths, addressing the varying depth and thickness of skin and fat layers among patients.
How is Ultherapy different from other non-surgical skin treatments?
Unlike other non-invasive and minimally invasive skin procedures, Ultherapy allows real-time imaging of skin layers during treatment. This enhances precision, helps establish patient safety, and optimizes skin results.
Another edge of Ultherapy is that it can reach depths of up to 4.5 mm versus other non-surgical treatments that can only reach the dermis, which is < 3 mm in depth. By acting on the deeper layers of the skin, Ultherapy targets the foundational layers that maintain skin laxity.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs):
You can expect that your Ultherapy treatment to be a comfortable session as the treatment does not involve any injections or cuts through the skin. A transducer will be used to deliver ultrasound energy into the target skin areas. You may feel a warm, prickly sensation as the transducer comes in contact with your skin. This sensation signifies that ultrasound energy is being distributed into the layers of your skin, working to tighten and lift your skin from within.
The treatment session will take about 60 minutes. After the procedure, you can immediately resume to your normal activities. You may notice that your skin appears flushed after the procedure, but the redness will resolve after a few hours.
The number of treatment sessions will depend on your skin condition and profile. Your doctor will carefully assess your skin and advise you on the number of sessions that you will need. To track your progress, before-and-after photographs will be routinely taken during each session.
Once the ultrasound energy reaches the deep skin tissues, production of new collagen rapidly begins. Because of this, you may immediately notice some changes in your skin after your first session. However, the full effect of Ultherapy could be noticeable over the course of 2 to 3 months. In some patients, optimal results are achieved only after a few months.
An FDA clinical trial on the effectiveness of Ultherapy reported that 9 out of 10 patients had a visible, significant lift of the brow line, resulting in fresh-looking eyes and a more youthful look. Patients also report having tighter, firmer skin in the face and neck.
The visible results of Ultherapy treatments can last up to a year or even longer. To maintain optimal results, you may have to schedule additional treatment sessions. The interval of follow-up treatments varies per patient. Some patients schedule their follow-up treatments every year, while other have their follow-up treatments after 2 years.
Individuals with sagging skin, lowered brow line, wrinkles, fine lines, or dull-looking skin are the ideal candidates for Ultherapy treatment. Your doctor will carefully examine your skin, as well as your general health to determine if you are an appropriate candidate for Ultherapy.
Ultherapy has been cleared by the US FDA as a safe, non-invasive skin lifting treatment that uses ultrasound energy, which safely stimulates collagen production. Ultrasound has been used in medical diagnostics and treatments for more than 50 years, and clinical studies provide evidence on its safety. Same with other medical treatments, the Ultherapy procedure have general safety considerations and these will be discussed with you by your doctor.
